Ethan Hallmark was just another kid baseball player. Little did he know he would become a reluctant community icon after courageously fighting stage 4 neuroblastoma, a rare type of childhood cancer.

I Am Second started out to produce a White Chair Film with Ethan similar to the other films here. However, as the story unfolded, the project grew to include his family, friends and hometown of Midlothian, Texas. It grew beyond the bounds of the white chair and into a short documentary film capturing the life Ethan embodied: courage through suffering that inspired an entire community.

Ethan’s story is bigger than one boy. It’s about a family and a community intertwined in something larger – a journey called life that we take together.

When that journey leads us to the darkest of places, we discover that even just a small amount of light can overcome it
